Since starting to learn Photoshop back in the late 90s I’ve been trying to learn new programmes and improving my skills.
I’ve done work for a bunch of people over the years. Designing items ranging from albums to display units and logos to DVDs, the list is endless.
I’ve asked a few of them to say what they thought of the work and service they received from me.
Some time ago I was pointed in the direction of John by Mike Shawcross of This Thing called Photography, regarding a new logo. I let John have full creative input in the design and concept of the logo for Kev Sidford Photography and was more than happy with the results. As the Partnerships Director for the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML), I requested John to create a new logo and given a blank canvas, his first submission to the Board of Directors of BAIML was approved. This tells me that John does his homework to understand his clients’ requirements rather than just creating a design that is not fit for purpose. On a move to streamline my other business, I changed my existing business name to AdventureCode and to develop a new identity, guess what, JL was there ready to deliver.

John is quite simply a Godsend. His designs have lifted my first films ( and prospective films) to have far greater social media reach than I could ever hope to achieve without them. Responses from movie fans and other filmmakers have been universally positive, and continue to promote interest in the projects. The work John did on my Do Not Disturb project which I pitched to a panel of industry types including sales agents and film buyers was highly praised by all present. Sales agents approached me after the pitch and said that if I made the film that the poster promised they would be able to sell it, which is what you want from your key art. John has more than risen to the challenge on every project we’ve worked on, taking on my ideas and concerns, collaborating to create the right art for the right job. I hope to continue using his creative talents for many years to come.

I’ve worked with John on three short films and deeply value his ability to take my very rough sketches and make them into popular designs. He’s talented, pleasant to work with and reliable.

We asked John to create a theme and artwork for our second album. He provided several fantastic options that worked perfectly for us. Our only problem was choosing one and wishing we’d used him for our first album! Brilliant stuff!

John came highly recommended by my stills photographer Mike Shawcross, as they had worked together previously. John turned around 2 exceptional posters for my short film Retribution in a very quick timeframe, both of exceptional quality. These posters have been incredibly well received worldwide. I recently had a production partner comment that the Retribution full back poster was “one of the coolest posters she ever saw!”. John has also helped with poster concepts on a variety of other projects including another short film called The Sad Ones and for my feature film, The Three Don’ts. I hope to work with John again on my next feature film The Perished. John is approachable, collaborative and just an all round wonderful person. I could not recommend him highly enough!

I was after some business cards for my new cupcake business and I asked John if he would look at designing something for me. I had Noooooo idea of what I wanted other than I had the name ‘Wonderland Cupcakes’ and the colour had to be the same as Alice in Wonderland’s dress. John came up with an array of different idea’s all that I thought was amazing but I eventually went for the simple yet striking logo that I am now using. He even arranged for some sample business cards to be printed for me – Great service, Great designs, Great guy!!!
